Dr McGaughy was recommended to me for Cataract Surgery, and I now recommend him for an easy, pain-free, experience. My first successful cataract surgery with him was in 2024. When I needed my other eye done, I made sure to use him again with great results.

Dr. McGaughy grew up in eastern North Carolina and graduated as Valedictorian from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. Following medical school, Dr. McGaughy completed his internship at the Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL, and then his residency in ophthalmology at the Callahan Eye Hospital through the University of Alabama - Birmingham.

He has received numerous honors and awards throughout his education and training. In medical school, he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, awarded several scholarships, and selected for the Stephen D. Canady Gross Anatomy Award and President’s Clinical Science Award. During residency, he was elected to serve as Chief Resident in his final year.

Dr. McGaughy has been a member of Coastal Eye Group since 2019, providing comprehensive ophthalmic care focused on long-term vision health.
