Alex McGaughy, MD, grew up in eastern North Carolina and graduated as Valedictorian from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. Following medical school, Dr. McGaughy completed his internship at the Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL, and then his residency in ophthalmology at the Callahan Eye Hospital through the University of Alabama - Birmingham.

Dr. McGaughy has received numerous honors and awards throughout his education and training. In medical school, he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, awarded several scholarships, and selected for the Stephen D. Canady Gross Anatomy Award and President’s Clinical Science Award. During residency, he was elected to serve as Chief Resident in his final year.

Dr. McGaughy practices in our Little River and Myrtle Beach offices where he provides medical and surgical services for a wide variety of ocular problems, including cataract surgery.
